Oleh yang demikian, satu Modul Amalan Keselamatan Untuk Makmal Teknologi Pembinaan (KeIja Kayu & Perabot), MAK(KKP) telah dihasilkan bagi meningkatkan tahap kesedaran pelajar mengenai keselamatan di dalam makmal. Modul tersebut telah diedarkan kepada 60 orang pelajar Diploma Kejuruteraan Awam yang menjalani keIja amali di Makmal Teknologi Pembinaan (kerja kayu & perabot) di KUiTTHO. Mereka telah diminta untuk menilai isi, sifat mesra pengguna dan kebolehlaksanaan modul tersebut. Hasil analisis dengan menggunakan ujian-t menunjukkan bahawa isi MAK(KKP) adalah baik, bersifat mesra pengguna dan mempunyai kebolehlaksanaan yang tinggi.

Summary:The purpose of this study is to observe and find out the students are applying safe working ways at Construction Technology Laboratory (Wood Work), KUiTTHO and to determine their knowledge level regarding the safety in laboratories whether it fulfils the safety needs as determined. Other than that, this study is also implemented to produce Safety Guide Book (Buku Panduan Keselamatan) for Construction Technology Laboratory (Wood Work). Instruments used in this study are observation and questionnaires. The respondents are the Civil Engineering Diploma students that are doing hands-on training in this laboratory. The results of this study found that students follow the rules in the laboratory and they also realize that understanding and knowledge about safety influenced the safety precautions in laboratory. Realizing that no specific laboratory Safety Guide Books available for Construction Technology Laboratory (Wood Work) before, therefore with this Safety Guide Book students can use it as a guide so that the safe working environment can be carried out in this laboratory.

Responden adalah terdiri daripada 10 orang pensyarah, 4 orang staf sokongan dan 60 orang pelajar kursus Teknologi Berasaskan Kayu Politeknik Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah. Indikator yang dihasilkan dapat dijadikan satu piawaian yang dapat menjadi panduan samada bengkel kayu itu cemerlang atau tidak. Borang soal selidik diedarkan untuk mendapatkan maklumat dan program SPSS 10.0 for Windows (Statistical Packagev for the Social Science version 10.0 ) digunakan untuk menganalisis data yang diperolehi. Data dianalisis dan dikemukakan dalam bentuk analisis statistik secara deskriptif iaitu taburan skor min dan sisihan piawai. Dapatan menunjukkan hampir keseluruhan responden menyatakan bengkel kayu Politeknik Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah adalah cemerlang dan indikator yang dihasilkan adalah sesuai digunakan. Investigation of formalin and ethepon in some fruits of three local markets of Mymensingh district using gas chromatograph

Abstract: The presence of formalin and ethepon was investigated in some fruits viz. Apple, Banana and Mango collected from three local markets viz. Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) KR Market, BAU Shesh More market and Notun Bazar of Mymensingh Sadar. Samples were analyzed by gas chromatograph coupled with flame ionization detector. Data were tested in indentical condition with proper calibration of the instrument. Of the samples, 67 percent were free from both chemicals. About 10 ppm formalin was detected in the apple samples of BAU Shesh More. In contrast, 32 ppm ethepon was quantified in the banana samples of BAU KR market.

Intensification of rice based cropping system incorporating short duration oilseed mustard varieties

Abstract: An attempt was taken to transform Aman-fallow-Boro cropping pattern into Aman-rapeseed and mustard-Boro for three years beginning from Rabi 2011-12. Two components viz. Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh (BAU) and Bittohin Chashi Somaj Kallayan Sangstha (BCSKS) executed the programme under the leadership of BAU. Three upazillas viz. Mymensingh Sadar, Muktagacha & Haluaghat of Mymensingh district were under BAU component. Whereas, the upazillas Bagha of Rajshahi, Ishwardi of Pabna and Lalpur of Natore districts were under BCSKS component. A total of 1200 farmers (300+400+500 for 1st, 2nd & 3rd years) were taken into consideration to grow rapeseed and mustard in between Aman & Boro. Each of the farmers were provided with 1kg rapeseed and mustard seeds, necessary fertilizers, insecticide, fungicide & irrigation costs. Five rapeseed and mustard varieties namely BARI sarisha 14 & 15, BINA sarisha 4 & 7 and Unnata Tori 7 were used. Before rapeseed and mustard cultivation, all the farmers grew Aman rice &Boro rice after harvesting it. Among the five rapeseed and mustard varieties BARI sarisha 14 & 15, BINA sarisha 4 and Unnata Tori 7 were found to be suitable for the cropping pattern Aman-rapeseed and mustard-Boro. These varieties matured between 76.9 to 84.1 days. Per hectare seed yield of the varieties ranged from 1266.5 kg (Unnata Tori 7) to 1822.0 kg (BARI sarisha 14) with an average of 1544.6 kg. On an average per hectare cost of production, gross income & gross return from rapeseed and mustard were tk. 27770, 78180 and 50471, respectively. On an average, over three years gross income and gross return obtained from Aman and Boro rice were tk. 52,273 &22237 and tk. 71,138 & 30,935 per hectare, respectively. Thus, an additional income of tk. 50471 obtained by the farmers for growing rapeseed and mustard in between Aman & Boro over that of Aman & Boro only, and cropping intensity of the farmers raised into 300%.

Yield performance of Boro rice in response to urea super granular (USG)

Abstract: The experiment was conducted during December 2012 to June 2013 in the farmer’s field adjacent to Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), a village named Boira under Sadar Upazilla of Mymensingh to study the yield performance of Boro rice in response to USG. The experiment comprised two rice varieties viz. Binadhan-5 and BRRI dhan29 and seven levels of USG viz.i) prilled urea (PU) 280 kg ha-1(control),ii)USG 1.8g/4 hills in every alternate row applied at 5 cm depth, iii) USG 1.8g/4 hills in every alternate row applied at 10 cm depth, iv) USG 2.7g/4 hills in every alternate row applied at 5 cm depth, v)USG 2.7g/4 hills in every alternate row applied at 10 cm depth, vi) USG 3.6g/4 hills in every alternate row applied at 5 cm depth and vii)USG 3.6g/4 hills in every alternate row applied at 10 cm depth. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Variety, level of USG and their interaction exerted significant influence on yield contributing characters and yield of Boro rice. BRRI dhan29 produced higher number of effective tillers hill-1 and heaviest grain than that of Binadhan-5. As a result of superior yield parameters, BRRI dhan29 gave higher yield (7.67 t ha-1) than Binadhan-5 (6.52 t ha-1). In case of USG, the highest number of total tillers hill-1, grains panicle-1, 1000-grain weight and grain yield (7.59 t ha-1) were obtained from USG @ 3.6g/4 hills in every alternate row applied at 5cm depth. The lowest values of all the parameters were obtained from PU. Considering their interaction effect, BRRI dhan29 with USG 3.6g/4 hills in every alternate row applied at 5cm depth produced best yield attributes, grain (8.38 t ha-1) and straw yield (9.26 t ha-1). The lowest performance was observed in Binadhan-5 with PU. The overall results suggest that farmers can be advised to cultivate BRRI dhan29 fertilized with USG 3.6g/4 hills in every alternate row at 5 cm depth for getting highest yield in Boro season under the agro-climate condition of the study area.

Recent perspective of herbicide: Review of demand and adoption in world agriculture

Abstract: The demand of herbicide in agriculture is going to be increased and its use is increasingly being adopted around the world. Many developing countries like India, China, Bangladesh are facing shortages of workers for hand weeding crop fields as millions of people are moving to urban from rural areas. In these countries, herbicides are cheaper and more readily available than labor for hand weeding. It is inevitable that, herbicide use will increase in world agriculture, not only because millions of people are leaving rural areas, creating shortages of hand weeders, but also the need to increase crop yields. Hand weeding has never been a very efficient method of weed control often performed too late and not frequently enough. In many parts of the world, herbicides are being increasingly used to replace tillage in order to improve environmental conditions. In comparison with tillage, herbicide use reduces erosion, fuel use, greenhouse gas emissions and nutrient run-off and conserves water. This review article focuses on the status of using herbicides and its adoption in global agriculture.
