Padas River Whitewater Rafting & Jungle Train, Sabah

Padas Wildwater Rafting

Padas is a large muddy river situated in the interior of southwestern part of Kota Kinabalu that is only accessible by train. This wild river provides an adrenaline rush excursion covering a distance of 9 kms with 7 exciting and tough rapids! Suitable for individuals 13 years and above.

The journey will first take 1½ hours overland through the beautiful countryside to Beaufort town. From here, the adventure begins with a 1½ hours jungle train ride that tracks along the Padas River giving you a glimpse of the raging waters plus the interiors of Sabah. You will pass by old rail stations, villages and dense jungle foliage. Upon arriving at the starting point, participants will be given a safety briefing before going down the river.

All rafting guides holds proficiency Swift Water Rescue, and whitewater kayaking and rafting certifcation. They are certified by the New Zealand Canoeing Association.

What do I get to do?
This adventure combines the thrill-spills of  Padas rapids and fantastic historical and cultural journey on an old diesel train through the jungles and passing through little villages. The experience of riding the train is an added cultural thrill. Expect delays as these trains and station masters work at their own pace.
Adventure Rating and Remarks
4 - A whole day's activity filled with whitewater rapids, Sabah's great outdoors (lush greenery, little villages, the simple life),  a rickety train ride, barbeque lunch and visits to little Beaufort town.

Children aged 11 years old and below are not permitted on this activity. Participants deemed unfit by the guide for the activity or behaving in a manner which may endanger other participants will be prohibited from participating.

Itinerary

0540hrs
Pick up from hotel and transfer by coach to Beaufort Railway Station. Located in interior division of Sabah, east Malaysia on the Island of Borneo. Signing of liability Release Form before the rafting commences.
0730hrs
Arrive at Beaufort, Get onboard by train. The thrilling yet scenic ride will take around 1 ½ hours – 2 hours to get to PANGI STATION (starting point) Train will depart at 0750 hrs. Delays are expected.
On arrival at Rayoh station you will keep belongings and change into your rafting attire.
1030hrs
Arrive at Pangi where light refreshment will be served. Safety briefing will be conducted by rafting guides.
Rafting commence from starting point to RAYOH (ending point) which will take about 1 ½ hours-2 hours (10km) includes of 8 points of rapids namely HEAD HUNTER, LAMBADA, COBRA, SCOOBY DOO, WASHING MACHINE, MARY GO ROUND, SNAKE HOUSE AND BBQ RAPIDS.
1230hrs
Expected time of arrive back at Rayoh (rafting ending point) for lunch.
1330hrs
After lunch we will depart back by train to BEAUFORT (estimated 2 hours – 2 ½ hours)
1545 hrs
Arrival at Beaufort Town and transfer by coach or van back to Kota Kinabalu

What does it include?

What does it exclude?
Digital photos - a river guide will be taking pictures at the rapids and at the end of the event, you will be shown the  action shots and given an option to purchase a cdrom full of pictures or individual pictures
What do I need to bring/wear?
Change of clothes, towel, insect-repellant, pocket money, sun-block lotion,  toiletries, personal medication,
Wear quick dry clothing (eg. lycra or 'dry-fit') & strapped sandals, watersports shoes or scuba booties. If needed, wear eye/sun-glasses sports strap.
We suggest to bring a handheld battery operated fan, reading material and drink/snacks for train ride. You may purchase items at Beaufort town. A blanket/jacket to keep warm during returning ride on a/c bus  and train ride. 
Besttime to visit
This activity is normally available year round. During monsoon season, floods may occur halting the activity.
