TIMBER PROCESSING AND FINISHING TECHNOLOGY

The wood-based industry in Malaysia is one of the major resource-based industries. It has assumed a significant role in Malaysia as industrialisation programme, through its primary and value-added processing activities.

Conscious of the contribution of the industry, the Government has identified it as a priority industry targeted for further development. The main development objectives of the Industrial Master Plans (IMPs) are to transform the wood-based industry into a major resource-based industry, maximise value-added products from forest resources as well as make Malaysia as a reputable centre for high quality wood products such as furniture, joinery and mouldings.

To accomplish its objectives, WISDEC was given the mandate and responsibility to carry out technical training activities; assist in product development;

Organised furniture design competition; as well as coordinate the National Skills Competition.
 In carrying out these activities, WISDEC works closely with related organisations such as the universities, as well as other ministries and training centers.
Over the years, WISDEC  also acquired the necessary experience and skills and are now able to provide technical advisory services to the industry, particularly in the areas of production and quality control. This service is further enhanced through the acquisition of experts under technical cooperation projects with donor countries.  


Such technical assistance programe have been offered by countries such as Japan, Taiwan and Germany.






WISDEC was established with the following objectives :
To provide an industry-oriented skills training .
  1. To produce adequate skilled manpower for the wood-based industry 
  2. To expedite technology transfer through technical training .
  3. To provide technical advisory services in furniture manufacturing
