How to Dry Out Acne With Home Treatment

Acne is a disorder of your hair follicles and sebaceous glands. Your sebaceous glands produce an oil known as sebum that travels to the surface of your skin via the hair follicles. The hair follicles may become clogged, especially during periods of high sebum production. This can cause the follicles to develop into pustules that may rupture into lesions. The most common strategy of treating acne at home is to reduce excess oil and keep the follicles from becoming clogged.

Apply a liquid soap to a washcloth and gently rub it into your skin. Rinse the soap thoroughly from your skin with warm water and dry it with a clean towel. You should generally wash skin affected by acne no more than twice a day so that you don’t dry out your skin.

Apply medication directly to your acne. Acne medication is readily available without a prescription and often contains benzoyl peroxide as the active ingredient. This compound releases oxygen that can inhibit the growth of bacteria that can aggravate acne.

Use lemon juice to lighten skin that has been discolored by acne. Cut open a lemon with a knife, and squeeze the juice into a small container. Add a cup of water to the container, and mix these ingredients together. Soak a washcloth in the lemon juice, and apply it to your skin for a few minutes each day.

Treat oily acne with astringents. Apply a few drops of an astringent to a cotton ball, then place the cotton ball against your skin. Astringents for the treatment of acne are commercially available, and you can also make your own astringents at home. Dilute one part pure tea tree oil with 19 parts water to make an effective astringent.

Perform a home chemical peel. Apply the liquid chemical peel to your acne, then allow it to dry according to the instructions before peeling it off. A home chemical peel can help keep your pores from becoming clogged with excess oil.
