The Dosage of Quercetin per Day

As an antioxidant, quercetin may help protect your cells against oxidative damage. The anti-inflammatory properties of this flavonoid, or plant pigment, may be beneficial for people who have chronic, inflammatory health problems. Despite the benefits of quercetin, more research is needed to support these purported medicinal uses of this antioxidant. Your doctor if the only person qualified to recommend a daily dosage of quercetin that's appropriate for you.

For Healthy Adults

Adults who are otherwise healthy and simply want to increase their quercetin intake can take 100 to 250 mg of this supplement three times each day, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. Do not take more than 1 g of quercetin daily within first consulting your physician.

For Interstitial Cystitis

Interstitial cystitis, also called IC, is a chronic condition characterized by severe inflammation of the wall of the bladder. People with IC are usually women and frequently experience urinary pain, frequency and urgency, pelvic pain and pain during sexual intercourse. Taking 500 mg of quercetin twice daily may help alleviate bladder inflammation and urinary symptoms associated with IC. Women who are pregnant or breast-feeding, however, shouldn't use quercetin.

For Allergy Symptoms

If you have frequent allergies due to hay fever or asthma, you may benefit from daily treatment with quercetin. Taking 250 to 600 mg of quercetin per day may help reduce nasal congestion, sneezing, hives and watery eyes.

For Chronic Prostatitis

Chronic prostatitis is a male health condition in which the prostate gland is continuously swollen or irritated. Men with chronic prostatitis experience a variety of symptoms, including urinary incontinence, pain or burning during urination, frequent urination, flu-like symptoms, low back pain, blood in the urine and pain with ejaculation. Twice-daily treatment with 500 mg of quercetin may help reduce these uncomfortable symptoms of chronic prostatitis.
