JIRCAS carried out a joint research project with the Thai Royal Forest Department (RFD), and the results were summarized in JIRCAS’s “Research Highlights 2012” report titled “Soil suitability map for teak plantation in the Northeast of Thailand.” One of the outputs of this JIRCAS-RFD project was the publication of a map for Udon Thani and Nong Bua Lam Phu Provinces (Figure 1a) in Northeast Thailand, the project’s study area.

The method mentioned in the research highlight report has since been applied and extended by RFD to four other northeastern provinces: “Chaiyaphum and Khon Kaen Provinces” published in March 2015 (Figure 1b), and “Buri Ram and Ubon Ratchathani Provinces” published in December 2015 (Figure 1c).
The “Soil suitability maps for teak plantation in the Northeast of Thailand” (pdf e-book format; in Japanese, English and Thai ) have already been uploaded into the JIRCAS website’s “Database” page and also at the RFD website.
(Note: The map of “Chaiyaphum and Khon Kaen Provinces” was uploaded and released on January 7, 2016 with RFD’s approval. The map of “Buri Ram and Ubon Ratchathani Provinces” will be released very soon.)
