This chapter provides a review of the mechanical and thermal properties of particulate filled and short fiber reinforced polymer composites. It starts with a brief description of the common particulate fillers used in the plastics industry and then discusses the elastic and strength properties of particulate filled polymers. Characteristics of short fiber reinforced polymers are discussed next and emphasis is given on their modulus and strength predictions. The chapter ends with descriptions and properties of several short fiber reinforced composites, such as SMC, BMC, CSM, SFT and LFT.
- ☆Change History: June 2015. P.K. Mallick made the following changes: (1) In the title, author has added ‘Filled’ after ‘Particulate’ so that the new title is ‘Particulate Filled and Short Fiber Reinforced Polymer Composites’. (2) A new paragraph has been added in Pages 2 and 14. (3) The title of Section 2 has been changed. (4) Section 7.3 has been shortened. (5) A new Section 8 and a reference have been added.
