Overview
When you carry extra weight in the face, you are likely to appear heavier to people who meet you for the first time. Although you cannot spot-burn fat, you can make some easy and quick lifestyle changes to reduce puffiness and tone your face. Following a reduced calorie diet also helps you lose weight anywhere on the body, including the face.
Healthy Diet
According to the Mayo Clinic, eating a well-rounded diet helps relieve water retention. This symptom commonly occurs while you have your period and may give you a bloated look in your face. Your diet should include plenty of fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and whole grains. Aim for a minimum of three servings of fruit and vegetables on a daily basis. Avoid certain substances that make you retain water, like alcohol and caffeinated beverages. Instead, drink plenty of water each day. Replacing other beverages with water not only reduces your caloric intake but also reduces puffiness in the face.
Calcium
At a minimum, you should consume 1,200 mg of calcium on a daily basis, according to Good Housekeeping. Calcium helps your body burn more fat and reduces the amount of water you retain in the face. Eat a diet that includes high calcium foods, such as milk, cheese, green leafy vegetables and orange juice. If you are concerned you don’t get enough calcium in your diet, supplements are available.
Low-Sodium Diet
If you eat a diet high in salt, you have an increased risk of facial bloating. Limit the number of foods high in sodium in your diet, such as table salt, canned vegetables, processed meals, fast food, lunch meat and chips.
