Transversal section

  
 Diffuse-porous. Pores in comparison with other Alder species are more scattered, in shorter radial multiples and groups, often clustered. Aggregate rays are absent. Diffuse, apotracheal parenchyma. Pith triangular.           
 
 

Radial section

  
 Scalariform perforation plates with 10 to 20 bars. Rays homogeneous. Ray-vessel-pits relatively small. Generally ibriform fibres, fibre-tracheids rare.   
 
 

Tangential section

  
 Uniseriate rays. Average ray height: 8 to 20 cells.   
 
 

Key characters

  
 Diffuse-porous. Radial pore multiples, scattered. Scalariform perforation plates with 10 to 20 bars.
