Abstract
The aim of this review is to summarize research works on mechanical properties of pressure sensitive adhesives (PSAs). The mechanical properties of PSAs are usually described by tack, shear resistance and peel strength, which are strongly dependent on bulk viscoelastic properties of adhesive system. Here, we review some typical peeling models and the correlation of bulk viscoelastic properties to peel, shear and tack. Different factors affecting bonding and debonding properties of PSAs are examined in light of their relevance to rheological properties. The effects of substrate surface roughness are also reviewed. At last, some important new characterization methods together with rheology will be discussed.
