Abstract: This paper is intended to provide an introduction to micro-instructional engineering design, which means the detailed modelling and design of specific components and adaptations for teaching specific materials. This purpose is based on activity theory to design complex multifaceted object called pedagogical instrument, which can be used as cognitive instrument to amplify learners' abilities, as didactic instrument to bring into play learner's knowledge as well as interface tool. The micro design is centred on the design of this pedagogical instrument, whose molecules are the smallest collection of the components retaining the properties of that material (according to the teaching intentions). The instructional designer should apply projection for specifying models of each component of e-learning environment to be constructed by other actors of the design (pedagogical, cognitive, content and interface projections).
