Abstract: E-commerce sales of furniture, lighting, major appliances and furnishings increased more than five-fold over a ten-year period, reaching an estimated value of US$ 11,990 million in 2011. North America was the largest market providing 56% of the total in 2011, followed by Europe with 36% (up from 24% in 2000).In the categories considered the share of e-commerce sales of total sales (at retail prices) increased from 0.3% to 1.1% over the ten-year period. Growth in the e-commerce of furniture and related products is expected to continue in double digits in 2012 and 2013. In 100 pages, around 50 major e-commerce web sites are monitored, mostly active in United States and Europe. These sites are analyzed from different point of views: property (sites managed by furniture manufacturers, by retailers, web-only companies), logistics (with specific accent on mail-order companies), specialization (rugs, outdoor, bed&bath, lighting, cooking), market segment (luxury and mass market). Last but not least: a final chapter including tips on best practices. Among the monitored sites: Bellacor, Conforama, Cooking.com, Crate&Barrell, Herman Miller, Ikea, MattressUSA, Otto, Thegardengates.com, Wayfair, William-Sonoma.
