Abstract
Abstract
The distribution of wood inhabiting fungi concentrating on some pileate polypores based on the presence of basidiomes lying on the forest floor, on twigs, branches and standing dead spars of Acacia mangium trees at two Acacia mangium Willd. plantation forests ie. in Kemasul, Pahang and Ulu Sedili, Johore in Peninsular Malaysia was investigated. The study was designed to see dominant species and the frequency of occurrence of various fungal species in A. mangium plantation forests. This project is a continuation of a study conducted in 1993 to see whether the same fungal species occur at the same site as before. The sites selected in the plantation forests were visited three times in a year (January, June and December) in 2005 and the occurrence of fungi was noted. A total of 16 species assigned to 11 genera was recorded during the visits in 2005. Pycnoporus sanguineus and Schizophyllum commune were two common fungi which appeared in all visits.
