Title
Preliminary evaluation of laminated veneer lumber bonded with expanded polystyrene
Abstract
The objective of this paper was to preliminarily evaluate the feasibility and mechanical properties of a laminated veneer lumber (LVL) bonded with expanded polystyrene (EPS). Five compositions were tested with varying amount of EPS (96, 192 and 288 g/m2) and number of veneers (3 and 5). The results showed that proposed LVL-EPS presented suitable mechanical properties in comparison to those made using thermosetting resins. Increasing amount of EPS reduced density and mechanical properties.
