Abstract
Currently, there are about 1.79 million hectares of Pinus and 65 000 of Tectona grandis (Teca) planted in Brazil. As in trees processing to obtain sawn timber, only 40 to 50% (by volume) are recovered, the amount of waste generated is significant. Though it can be biologically degraded, its concentration in certain places, its deposition or burning can cause negative environmental impacts. Considered the described situation, a relevant alternative is the use of such wastes in wood-based composites production, employing raw materials from renewable sources and waste recovery without emission of formaldehyde. The aim of this study is to assess the feasibility of production medium density particleboard (MDP) and oriented strand board (OSB) from waste of Pinus sp. having Teca as adding, in proportions of 0, 25, 50, 75, 100%. Epoxy (from residue paint powder) and natural polymer polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) will be the adhesives to apply in production of 180 panels, from which test specimens will be obtained in order to carry out physical and mechanical performance evaluation. Results will be statistically treated using analysis of variance of complete factorial design - DOE. (AU)
