Abstract:
Particulate silica generated in situ has recently been acknowledged as a useful technique to solve the problem of dispersion of silica in non-polar rubber matrixes. natural rubber (NR) is one of the major elastomers that are often mixed with silica to produce high performance engineering materials. This chapter focuses on recent advances in particulate silica in natural rubber generated in situ, and particularly the development of preparation techniques, including soft processing techniques, which help to enhance control of morphology. Either a homogeneous dispersion or a network formation of in situ silica in NR matrix can be achieved. This chapter’s ultimate goal, therefore, is to direct those who are interested in the subject to create new functional nanocomposites.
