In this chapter all of the planning necessary for a good sugarcane crop are presented. Maximizing yield, environment requirements, varieties, planting season, spacing and depth of planting are addressed. Special emphasis is given to the choice of variety considering adaptability to mechanical harvesting, early ripening, sprouting of stumps, yield, industrial characteristics, and stability over environments. A bibliography is provided at the end for additional details for readers.
