ABSTRACT
A laboratory-synthesized urea-formaldehyde resin was mixed with extender, filler, and ammonium chloride. The urea-formaldehyde resin adhesive mixture was used to bond five types of three-ply, particleboard (PB)-core panels with four Korean species, which are Pinus densiflora Siebol et Zuccarinio, Pinus rigida Miller, Larix letoplepis Gordon, and Quercus acutissima Carruthers. The three-ply, PB-core panels were tested for internal bond, static bending properties, and dimensional stability according to the American Society for Testing and Materials D 1037 procedure. In addition, surface abrasion resistance was measured by KS F 3114 Plywood for flooring. The results of the performance evaluation indicated that the materials and methods were adequate for manufacturing three-ply, PB-core panels.
